Key Role for STS in Blue Canyon Renovation

Phuket, Thailand: Blue Canyon Country Club has partnered with Sports Turf Solutions (STS) for a major renovation of the Phuket club’s famed Canyon Course.

Scene of famous victories for Tiger Woods(1998) and Greg Norman (1994) in the Johnnie Walker Classic, the investment in the Canyon Course will enhance the golfing experience for members and visitors.

As part of the rejuvenation overhaul, the tees and surrounds will be converted to a new variety of Zoysia grass called Stadium Zoysia, which is known for its durability at low cutting heights.

The fairways will be replaced with Zeon Zoysia, while the greens will be rebuilt with Tif Eagle Bermuda. The new grass varieties will not only enhance the visual appeal of the course but will also provide a better playing surface for golfers.

Additionally, the irrigation system will be fully upgraded to a Hunter Pilot System, which will be complemented by a new pump station to ensure the efficient delivery of water to the course.

“We’re very honoured to be part of this project,” said Brad Burgess, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of STS, a leading supplier of turf grasses, machinery, irrigation systems, and golf vehicles and a Full Business Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

STS has a proven track record of delivering top-quality turf grasses to several prominent golf courses in the region, including Thailand’s StoneHill Golf Club, Hoiana Shores Golf Club in Vietnam and the Singapore Island Country Club.

Praphant Asava-aree, Blue Canyon Country Club Chairman, said: “We are excited to be partnering with Sports Turf Solutions Co, Ltd for this significant renovation project.

“We are confident that their expertise and knowledge will enable us to achieve our vision of creating a golf course that is not only visually stunning but also provides a superb playing surface and to achieve our goal of creating a course that provides an exceptional golfing experience for our members and our guests.”

The renovation project is set to commence from March 20 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, depending on the weather and other circumstances.
